22 Killed In Saudi Hostage Taking

30 May 2004 --The Saudi Interior Ministry today said that 22 people were killed in the hostage-taking crisis in the eastern city of Khobar.

The ministry also said that one of the attackers was killed and that three escaped.

A purported Al-Qaeda leader has claimed responsibility for the attack and killings.

An Internet website known for militant Islamic content broadcast a tape of a man identifying himself as Abdul Aziz al-Muqrin, believed to be the leader of Al-Qaeda operations in Saudi Arabia.

The voice on the tape has not been verified.

Earlier, Western news agencies quoted Saudi security officials as saying that the leader of the hostage takers was captured and that two other militants were killed.
