Hungarian Peacekeeper Killed By Mine In Bosnia

30 September 2004 -- A Hungarian soldier with the international peacekeeping force in Bosnia was killed and another injured when their vehicle skidded off the road and struck a land mine.

The NATO-led Stabilization Force, SFOR, released the information today, adding that the body of the Hungarian soldier and the vehicle remained at the scene of the accident while mine clearers worked to demine the area.

The injured Hungarian soldier was able to walk out of the mine field and was taken to the hospital. His injuries were described as "light."

There are some 7,000 peacekeepers serving with SFOR, which was established after the 1992-95 war in Bosnia.
