Ukraine Opposition Gives Kuchma Ultimatum

29 November 2004 -- An aide to Ukraine's presidential hopeful Viktor Yushchenko demanded yesterday that outgoing President Leonid Kuchma sack the country's prime minister and called for the formation of a coalition government.

Yuliya Tymoshenko gave Kuchma 24 hours to dismiss Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, who was declared the winner of last week's disputed presidential election that the opposition claims was rigged.

Tymoshenko demanded parliament hold a special session today to oversee the formation of a coalition government.

Tymoshenko also told supporters in Kyiv's main square to mass by the Supreme Court tomorrow as it hears Yushchenko's case calling for the election result to be overturned.
