Macedonian Parliament Approves New Cabinet

17 December 2004 -- The Macedonian parliament today approved a new multiethnic coalition government led by Prime Minister Vlado Buckovski from the Social Democratic Union.

The vote came after several days of debate about policies needed in the Balkan country, which is recovering from an ethnic Albanian insurgency in 2001.

Buckovski said before the vote that his government will pursue "political solutions" to the country's problems.

Buckovski became prime minister after the resignation of Hari Kostov last month due to policy differences within the ruling coalition.

Despite Kostov's difficulties, Buckovski modelled his new government on the previous three-party coalition including the Liberal Democratic Party and the Democratic Union of Integration, the main ethnic Albanian party.
