Saudi Authorities Kill Seven Suspected Militants

30 December 2004 -- Saudi Arabia's Interior Ministry says security forces killed seven suspected militants following two car bomb attacks targeting Saudi security facilities in the capital Riyadh.

The apparently coordinated bombings yesterday evening occurred outside the Interior Ministry headquarters and a security forces base.

The ministry said at least 18 people were injured in the two blasts but said there were no deaths.

The Interior Ministry statement said seven militants linked to the car bombs were later killed in a raid by security forces in northern Riyadh.

The statement described the militants as part of a "deviant" group -- the Saudi government's term for the Al-Qaeda organization.
