Tajikistan Registers Parliamentary Candidates

27 January 2005 -- Tajik electoral officials say that 170 candidates have been registered to run in Tajikistan's upcoming parliamentary elections.

Central Election Commission official Mukhibullo Dododzhnov today said those 170 candidates were registered out of 209 applicants who had applied to run in the polls.

Tajikistan is preparing elections for the lower house of parliament on 27 February. Elections for the upper house are due to be held on 24 March.
