Rumsfeld Offered To Resign Twice Over Abu Ghurayb

4 February 2005 -- U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld says he offered his resignation twice over the Abu Ghurayb scandal in Iraq.

In an interview with U.S. news station CNN, he said President George W. Bush asked him to stay on both times.

The release of photographs last spring depicting American soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghurayb triggered worldwide outrage, particularly in the Arab world.
