Serbia Arrests Six War Crimes Suspects

17 February 2005 -- Serbian authorities say they have arrested six people accused of war crimes in the first case transferred to the Serbian judiciary by the United Nations war crimes court at The Hague, the Netherlands.

The Hague court handed the case to Belgrade authorities last year. Up until then, no suspects had been arrested in the case.

Then, Serbian war crimes prosecutors launched an investigation against nine people, six of whom Belgrade authorities say were arrested by police.

Court spokeswoman Sonja Prostran said that the investigating judge at the Belgrade court arraigned the six today.

Belgrade officials have so far given no other details about the arrests.
