Bosnian Serb Indicted Over Srebrenica Surrenders To Belgrade

8 April 2005 (RFE/RL) -- A Bosnian Serb officer indicted for involvement in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre has surrendered to authorities in Belgrade.

Serbia's government released a statement today saying that Vujadin Popovic surrendered and will be handed over to the United Nations war crimes tribunal in The Hague.

Popovic is the 11th Serb or Bosnian Serb to surrender to authorities in the past weeks.

The surrenders come as Belgrade awaits a European Union report next week on its suitability for eventual EU membership.

Improved cooperation with the UN court is a key factor for the EU writing a positive report. (AFP/RTR)
