CIA Chief Visits Albania


Albanian Prime Minister Fatos Nano (file photo) 27 June 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Albanian Prime Minister Fatos Nano today said that the head of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, the CIA, was in Albania last week at a meeting of the regional heads of intelligence agencies.

Nano says that CIA chief Porter Goss participated in a regional intelligence forum in Tirana and also discussed global security issues with Nano.

Nano said that Goss told him that Albania's government has an "irreplaceable" role in regional stability.

Nano said that Goss was the first CIA director to visit the region in 10 years.
