In Samarra, central Iraq, clashes between security forces and insurgents left two Iraqi soldiers and one civilian dead. Four civilians were wounded.
A policeman was killed in Baq'ubah and another wounded when gunmen sprayed their checkpoints with machine-gun fire.
Meanwhile, U.S. and Iraqi troops patrolled Al-Hadithah in western Iraq on the third day of Operation Quick Strike.
The operation, involving 1,000 troops, began after 14 U.S. Marines were killed in a roadside bomb blast near Al-Hadithah.
