Two Dead In Siberian Mine Blast

Coal miners in Ukraine (file photo) (AFP) March 4, 2006 -- Two miners were killed today and two injured in a methane explosion in a coal mine in the southern Siberian province of Kemerovo.

An investigation into the cause of the blast has been opened.

Reports quote local authorities as saying the families of the dead miners will receive $35,700 each as compensation.

Scores of people die each year in mine accidents in Russia.
