Talks Due On Dissolving Ukrainian Parliament

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko (file photo) (epa) KYIV, August 1, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko is due today to hold talks with parliamentary faction leaders on the possibility of dissolving parliament.

Disbanding the legislature would mean Ukraine's long-running attempt to form a coalition government had failed.

The country has been without a government since inconclusive March elections.

Parliament has been pressing Yushchenko to nominate Viktor Yanukovych, the leader of the pro-Russia Party of Regions and his main political rival, as prime minister.
