HRW Concerned About Croatian-Serb Returnees

(RFE/RL) PRAGUE, September 5, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Human Rights Watch (HRW) says Serb returnees in Croatia are still living a "precarious existence."

In a new report, the U.S.-based group says returning Serbs are facing violence and intimidation, the loss of housing rights, and limited access to state employment.

HRW says 350,000 ethnic Serbs fled their homes in Croatia during the 1991-95 war. The Croatian government has registered around 120,000 returnees, but the group says the actual number is almost certainly lower.
