Iran, Armenia Discuss Second Gas Pipeline

The Iranian and Armenian flags (Fars) September 12, 2006 -- The speaker of the Iranian parliament, Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, today said that Iran and Armenia are discussing the possibility of constructing a second natural-gas pipeline.

Haddad-Adel, who is currently on a two-day visit to Armenia, also said the possibility of Iran exporting oil to Armenia is also under consideration.

The first section of a $220 million natural gas pipeline is set to be completed this year. Its initial capacity will be 1.7 billion cubic meters.

Armenia has until now depended on Russia for all of its gas needs.
