Hussein Defense Lawyer Ejected From Court


Judge Muhammad al-Uraybi (file photo) (epa) November 29, 2006 -- The chief judge in the trial of the former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein today ejected a defense attorney to be ejected from the court and detained for a day.


Judge Muhammad al-Uraybi threw Badee Izzat Aref out for repeatedly referred to the prosecution and judges as "brothers" rather than by their titles.


Hussein and six former members of his regime are facing genocide charges for their role in a crackdown against the Kurds in the late 1980s.
