U.S. Says Saudis Not Planning To Intervene In Iraq

King Abdullah Bun Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia with U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney in November (epa) December 13, 2006 -- The White House denied today that Saudi Arabia has warned Washington it would support Iraqi Sunnis against Shi'a if the United States were to pull out of Iraq.

White House spokesman Tony Snow said "that's not Saudi government policy."

The "New York Times" today reported that Saudi King Abdullah had told U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney during Cheney's visit to the kingdom last month that the Saudis plan to provide financial backing to Iraqi Sunnis if the United States withdraws.
