Ukraine's Constitutional Court Meets Amid Protests

Ukrainian police escort Constitutional Court Justice Syuzanna Stannyk (center) into the court building today (AFP) April 19, 2007 -- Authorities in Kyiv have deployed extra police at Ukraine's Constitutional Court.

Today's deployment is an effort to prevent further disruptions of hearings into the legality of President Viktor Yushchenko's dissolution of parliament on April 2.

Police reinforcements and a metal fence now separate supporters of Yushchenko and Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych in front of the court building.

On April 18, thousands pro-Yushchenko demonstrators temporarily blocked justices from entering the court building.
