Moscow Summons Austrian Ambassador Over Detention

(RFE/RL) June 15, 2007 -- The Russian Foreign Ministry has summoned Austria's ambassador to demand the release of one of its citizens detained on suspicion of espionage.

An Austrian Interior Ministry spokesman, Manfred Hestera, said on June 14 that a Russian citizen and an Austrian Army officer were arrested near Salzburg on June 11 on suspicion of exchanging classified information.

Officials in Moscow said the Russian citizen was an employee of the Russian Space Agency who was attending an international conference in Vienna.
