Workers At Iranian Sugar-Cane Plant To Go On Strike Again

(RFE/RL) August 26, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- Some 5,000 workers of a sugar-cane factory in southwestern Iran have threatened to go on strike again, starting on August 27.

Workers at the Haft Tapeh factory in Khuzestan have reportedly gone on strike more than 10 times in the past 18 months.

A local activist and Haft Tapeh employee, who asked not to be named, told Radio Farda today that the workers are seeking higher salaries, the payment of back wages, and the right to form a trade union.
