Moscow, March 14 (RFE/RL) - Chechen
separatist Chief of Staff Aslan Maskhadov, who according to Russian
officials was seriously wounded in recent fighting in the breakaway
republic, has appeared on tv.
An RFE/RL correspondent in Grozny reported today that Maskhadov appeared last night in a television broadcast that broke into programs of the local Grozny television -controlled by pro-Moscow authorities.
Maskhadov said he had n-o-t been injured and was ready to continue fighting against Russian troops.
Chechen separatist leader Dzhokhar Dudayev said yesterday in an exclusive telephone interview with RFE/RL's Moscow office that Maskhadov was alive and willing to appear in public to confirm his words.
