Moscow, 20 August 1996 (RFE/RL) -- Russian President Boris Yeltsin left Moscow today for a two-day break in the lake region of Valdai, some 300 kilometers northwest of Moscow.
Kremlin spokesman Sergei Yastrzhembsky said Yeltsin will spend two days in the presidential residence of Valdai and then will return to Moscow "to hold a number of meetings with members of the government." He gave no further details.
Yeltsin, 65, has made no public appearances since his inauguration ceremony on August 9. Aides said he suffered "colossal fatigue" after his re-election campaign. They have denied Yeltsin has suffered new heart trouble.
Yeltsin has been expected to start a holiday outside Moscow. Aides mentioned Valdai as a possible destination. Yastrzhembsky said Yeltsin is flying to Valdai today "to see whether it is possible to spend a routine holiday there."
