Russia: Presidents Clinton And Yeltsin To Meet In March




Washington, 5 December 1996 (RFE/RL) - The White House has confirmed that U.S. President Bill Clinton and Russian President Boris Yeltsin have agreed to meet in March.

Spokesman Michael McCurry said in a statement that the two leaders talked by telephone for about 20 minutes earlier today. McCurry's statement did not say where the meeting would take place.

However, Russian officials say the meeting probably will be be held in the United States. McCurry says the two presidents also agreed that U.S. Vice President Al Gore and Russian Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin would meet in February to prepare the Clinton-Yeltsin talks.
