Kazakhstan: Talks In Turkey May Cover Oil Transport

Prague, 6 March 1997 (RFE/RL) - A Kazakh delegation led by Prime Minister Akejan Kajegeldin today continues continues an official visit to Kazakhstan.

Our correspondent reports from the Turkish capital, Ankara, that Kajegeldin met yesterday with Turkish President Suleyman Demirel. Kajegeldin stressed to Demirel the importance of economic and cultural ties between the two nations. He noted Turkey had invested heavily in Central Asia, and, in particular, $200 million in Kazakhstan over the past five years.

Demirel said relations with Kazakhstan in the last five years had been fruitful.

Our correspondent says the issue of oil transportation was expected to figure prominently in talks between the two sides.
