Poland: Customs Agents Stage Slowdown

Warsaw, 17 March 1997 (RFE/RL) - Polish customs agents today continue a slow-down job action that they began late last night which has already led to long lines at the borders.

Agents are protesting slow Parliamentary action on a bill to form a new customs police force, and are demanding better pay and benefits.

Agents' representatives tell our Warsaw correspondent that they have warned their colleagues across the borders to be prepared for long crossing delays. Warnings have gone to Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania and Russia's Kaliningrad region.
