Poland: U.S. Surveillance Plane To Do Flyover Today

Warsaw, 15 May 1997 (RFE/RL) - A U.S. military surveillance plane today photographs Polish military installations along the Baltic coast.

The plane arrived in Warsaw this week and its crew has been preparing for its mission under the 1992 "Open Skies" Treaty.

The plane will carry Polish observers. Polish planes have flown similar missions in Germany, Britain and the United States. Germany and Britain have already flown similar missions over Poland, and Poland-Ukraine overflights are also scheduled this year.

The "Open Skies" Treaty was designed as a confidence-building measure, and signed by 27 countries.
