Russia: Chechnya To Get 90 Milliion Dollars In Reconstruction

Moscow, 10 June 1997 (RFE/RL) -- A senior Russian government official says Chechnya is entitled to more than $ 90 million in state aid to rebuild its war-shattered economy.

Itar-Tass news agency reports that Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Chubais and Security Council Secretary Ivan Rybkin agreed yesterday that an article in the 1997 federal budget qualifies Chechnya for aid.

Chubais told reporters after meeting Rybkin that funding for the Chechen economy will total almost $ 94 million. He said President Boris Yeltsin is expected to approve the funding shortly.
