Slovakia: Kovac Appoints New Foreign Minister

Bratislava, 11 June 1997 (RFE/RL) - Slovak President Michal Kovac today formally appointed Zdenka Kramplova as the country's new foreign minister. Following her nomination to the post last week, Kramplova said Slovakia's foreign policy would not change. She said Slovakia will continue to pursue its goal of entering NATO and the European Union. Kramplova replaces Pavol Hamzik who resigned two weeks ago in protest over the way in which a controversial referendum on whether to join NATO was conducted.
