Slovakia: Special Session of Slovakia's Parliament Scheduled

By Genvieve Zalatorius

Bratislava, 17 June 1997 (RFE/RL) - Opposition parties have succeeded in scheduling another special session of Parliament this week. Efforts to convene a special session failed last week, as members of parties of the governing coalition of Prime Minister Vladimir Meciar boycotted Parliament.

Our Bratislava correspondent reports the opposition-called session this Thursday is again designed to target Interior Minister Gustav Krajci. Krajci is blamed by the opposition for the failure of last month's referendum. Krajci defied a Constitutional Court ruling and the official Referendum Committee by refusing to distribute ballots, which included a question on direct presidential election.
