Prague, 18 June 1997 (RFE/RL) - Striking miners in Romania's Jiu valley are rejecting an agreement signed after all-night negotiations by their representatives, the government and the state mining company. Radio Bucharest reports this morning that the accord would provide for an immediate 15 percent increase in salaries and for negotiations on an additional increase in August. Thousands of miners seeking higher wages, however, are refusing to return to work.
