Azerbaijan: President Aliyev Visits Poland




Warsaw, 26 August 1997 (RFE/RL/) - Azerbaijan's President Gaidar Aliyev has opened a three-day visit to Poland, and today meets President Aleksander Kwasniewski and parliamentary leaders.

Presidential Spokesman Antoni Styrczula tells RFE/RL that Poland attaches great meaning to the relations with the states in the important regions of Central Asian and the Trans-Caucasus. Styrczula said soon there is a possibility of concluding negotiations on several bi-lateral agreements, including: mutual economic and trade cooperation, mutual investment protection, as well as eliminating double taxation.

Warsaw is reported interested in Azerbaijani petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and the agriculture and food-processing industries. Poland would like to deliver food in exchange for Azerbaijani cotton, silk and tea.
