Azerbaijan: President Concludes Poland Visit

Warsaw, 28 August 1997 (RFE/RL) - Azerbaijan's President Heydar Aliyev today concludes a three-day visit to Poland that has focused on trade and economic cooperation. Aliyev yesterday suggested Poland become closely involved in projects to transport Caspian oil to Europe and carry cargo from Central Asia to Europe via a planned Eurasian Transport Corridor.

At a joint news conference with Poland's President Aleksander Kwasniewski, Aliyev said development of relations with Poland is a "strategically important task" for Azerbaijan. Kwasniewski said that as Poland takes over the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) presidency next year, Warsaw will do everything in its power to help settle the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute.
