Kazan Metro Construction Started

Construction began today on the Kazan metro.

The metro will connect Kazan's Karavayevo and Gorky districts to the city center. Tatar President Mintimer Shaimiev says it will be finished by 2004 if financing is carried out as planned. The Russian and Tatarstan governments are splitting the construction charges. Moscow and Nizhniy Novgorod experts are overseeing the project.
