Bosnia: U.S. Says Serbs Keeping TV Agreement

Washington, 18 September 1997 (RFE/RL) - The U.S. State Department says Bosnian Serbs appear to be complying with an agreement regulating transmission from the television tower at Udrigovo.

Spokesman James Rubin said yesterday that Pale Serbs controlling the tower began to fulfill the terms of the agreement after being warned that NATO forces would take the tower back.

NATO returned the tower to control of the Pale Serbs, loyal to former leader Radovan Karadzic earlier this month after the Serbs agreed to broadcast daily unedited programs prepared by NATO, as well as those of Republika Srpska President Biljana Plavsic. But in the days leading up to Bosnia's municipal elections held last weekend, U.S. monitors said Pale Serbs were ignoring the agreement.
