Romania: Peacekeeping Exercise Begins Tomorrow

Bucharest, 4 November 1997 (RFE/RL) - Six NATO members and seven "Partnership for Peace" program participants tomorrow (Nov 5-14) open a joint peace-keeping exercise in the central Romanian town of Sibiu.

The exercise, code-named "Cooperative Determination '97," will involve 500 troops from NATO countries: U.S., France, Italy, Greece, Turkey and Portugal - as well as from Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Macedonia, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.

Romania's President Emil Constantinescu will be present tomorrow as the exercise opens.
