NATO: Partnership For Peace Members Meet

Brussels, 7 November 1997 (RFE/RL) - NATO today detailed a series of meetings this week with members of the "Partnership for Peace" program. Two of the meetings dealt with arms-related matters and included an initiative for some small-scale armaments cooperation projects to be proposed by "Partnership" members themselves.

A meeting on NATO science programs concluded with a pledge by the Alliance to sharply increase research programs in Eastern Europe.

NATO today also announced that the Czech Republic has formally accepted its projected share of the cost of NATO membership. Hungary has already submitted its financial documents to NATO, and Poland is expected to do so soon.
