Romania: Prime Minister-Designate Promises Economic Changes

Bucharest, 10 April 1998 (RFE/RL) -- Romanian Prime Minister-designate Radu Vasile says that his government would make efforts to attract foreign investment and speed up economic privatization.

Speaking yesterday with RFE/RL, Vasile said: "We'll open the country for foreign investors."

Vasile also said that four centrist parties which form the coalition behind his government have reached an agreement on the issue of returning propert seized by the Communists.

He stopped short of providing details, saying that the issue is to be debated in parliament. The government program must be approved by the parliament at a session scheduled for next week (April 15). Vasile was appointed last week, after the resignation on March 30 of Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea.
