Moscow, 26 March (RFE/RL) - Initial preliminary results in today's Russian presidential election in Russia put acting President Vladimir Putin in the lead with 46 percent of the vote. The partial, preliminary results are based on 19 percent of the votes already counted in Russia's Far East. That's well ahead of his nearest rival, communist Gennady Zyuganov, who is shown as getting about 30 percent. Putin needs to obtain a straight 50 percent of the total vote if he is to avoid a run-off against Zyuganov. More updates tonight.
