Tirana, 22 February 2002 (RFE/RL) -- The Albanian parliament early this morning voted in the government of new Prime Minister Pandeli Majko. Eighty-one legislators voted for Majko's cabinet and 42 against in the 140-member assembly.
The vote come after rival factions in Majko's socialist party overcame differences that brought down the last government of Ilir Meta.
But analysts say the underlying problem -- a personal power struggle between Meta and party Chairman Fatos Nano -- remains. Nano forced Meta to resign in January amid accusations of corruption against his ministers.
It took the 34-year-old Majko almost 10 days to put together a cabinet satisfactory to both factions of the party.
