Russia: Prime Minister Says Past Privatizations Irreversible

Moscow, 17 July 2003 (RFE/RL) -- Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov today said the country's privatization process could not be reversed. Kasyanov today told a cabinet meeting that he has always believed that the results of previous years' privatizations are "irreversible."

A key shareholder in Russian oil major Yukos has been arrested in connection to a 1994 privatization, raising questions that the Kremlin would revisit the results of the 1990s state selloff of property.
