Iraq: Two U.S. Soldiers Killed in Separate Attacks

Baghdad, 23 July 2003 (RFE/RL) -- U.S. military officials say two U.S. soldiers were killed and at least eight wounded in separate attacks today in Iraq. The attacks follow reports that Saddam Hussein's two sons were killed yesterday during a raid by U.S. troops in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

U.S. officials say one U.S. soldier was killed and six injured today when an improvised explosive device was detonated on a roadside near Mosul as a U.S. military convoy passed by. Another U.S. soldier was killed and two wounded near Ramadi, west of Baghdad, in a similar attack.

The latest casualties brings to 41 the number of dead U.S. soldiers since 1 May when U.S. President George W. Bush declared major combat operations in Iraq had ended.
