Russia: Prosecutor Says Arrest Made In Journalist's Murder Case

Moscow, 17 October 2003 (RFE/RL) -- A Russian prosecutor said today that an arrest has been made in the case of "Tolyattinskoye obozrenie" Editor in Chief Aleksei Sidorova, who was killed after investigating corruption among local officials. Prosecutor Vladimir Kolesnikov declined to identify the alleged killer, but said today that Sidorov's slaying was an act of "gratuitous violence." Sidorov, 31, was killed on 9 October outside his home.

Russian television has said Sidorov was the sixth journalist killed in Tolyatti, named after Palmiro Tolyatti, one of the founders of the Italian communist party.
