Women's Rights Activists Detained In Tehran

At least 10 members of Iran's One Million Signatures Campaign against legal discrimination against women have been detained in Tehran.

Police forces descended on them as they gathered to visit the families of political prisoners on the occasion of the Iranian new year.

The campaign recently was awarded a Global Women's Rights Award, an honor bestowed by the Feminist Majority Foundation each year to individuals or groups that are active in promoting women's rights.

In January, it won the Simone de Beauvoir Award in France.

The campaign, launched in 2006, has consistently come under official pressure, and a number of its members have been summoned to appear in court, detained, or jailed for their activities.
