Azimjan Askarov, a prominent ethnic Uzbek rights activist, has been awarded the Homo Homini human rights prize by the Czech NGO People in Need. Askarov was sentenced to life in prison over last year's deadly violence in southern Kyrgyzstan. His son, Sherzod, accepted the award on his father's behalf at the opening of the One World film festival.
