Amid Serbia-Kosovo Talks, Mitrovica's Divide Remains Frozen

The prime ministers of Serbia and Kosovo, Ivica Dacic and Hashim Thaci, met in Brussels on April 2 for another attempt at normalizing relations between the two countries. No agreement was reached. Serbia has refused to recognize Kosovo's independence, declared in 2008. Among the places affected by the frozen state of relations is Mitrovica, a Kosovo town divided into an ethnic Albanian section in the south and an ethnic Serb enclave in the north, where political leaders also refuse to recognize Kosovo as an independent state.
