Ayazi -- Question Four: If elected president, one of you will enjoy great security and a good life. But most Afghans still do not have food, housing and security. How would you improve the quality of life for the people?
13:27 15.2.2014
Sherzai: We need to support our military to evolve into a better force.
13:26 15.2.2014
Hilal: Better governance and justice will improve the quality of our security forces.
13:25 15.2.2014
Wardak: In Afghanistan we can adopt a mixed system where we can have some conscription but we should also recruit volunteers.
13:23 15.2.2014
Sultanzai: We need to recognize the sacrifices of the security forces but we need to give them a greater purpose so they can better serve our nation.
13:22 15.2.2014
Sherzai: I have great respect for the sacrifices of the present military. The Afghan National Army is more capable than the militaries we had in the past.
13:20 15.2.2014

Wardak: We faced a lot of problems in building the military. Most militaries in the world today are volunteer. I can prove that the army is better than at any time in our history.
13:17 15.2.2014
Hilal: In the past our military had high professional standards. The officer corps needs to be better trained. But we need to go back towards conscription in recruiting soldiers.
13:15 15.2.2014
Sultanzoi: We need fundamental reforms in the army and the security forces.
13:14 15.2.2014
Ayazi -- Third Question: Afghanistan historically has a conscript military but the current volunteer army is seen as being influenced by powerful people. Can this military succeed?
