Kyiv says another soldier killed:

Ukraine's military says that one Ukrainian serviceman has been killed and six others wounded in attacks in the country's volatile east, testing a fragile two-month cease-fire.

Military spokesman Andriy Lysenko told a briefing on May 3 that the separatists had used large-caliber artillery in their attacks on government forces, in violation of the February truce.

The military said that pro-Russian separatists violated the cease-fire by firing artillery and mortars 28 times in the evening of May 2.

The separatists claimed on May 3 that rebel-held Donetsk was shelled by Ukrainian forces 36 times in the past 24 hours.

Fighting between pro-Russian rebels and the Ukrainian Army has killed over 6,100 people in the past year.

The cease-fire has been in place since mid-February, but fighters from both sides have been killed and injured in ongoing clashes in a handful of areas. (Reuters, UNIAN, Interfax)
