At Least 20,000 Call On Government To Resign In Moldova

At least 20,000 people protested in Moldova’s capital, demanding the resignation of President Nicolae Timofti and the government following a bank scandal that led to the disappearance of some $1 billion.

Protesters also called for early parliamentary elections to be held in March. The protest, organized by the Dignity and Truth civic movement in Moldova, also brought tens of thousands of Moldovans into the streets on September 6. It was the largest protest in the country's post-Soviet history. For a week, hundreds of protesters have remained at a tent camp in Chisinau's central square and vowed to stay until their demands are met. Protest organizers are now urging people to also set up tents around the government building.
