Iranians in different cities called out anti-government slogans on the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, responding to state-sponsored official festivities. Chants of "Death to the dictator" and "Death to Khamenei" could be heard as darkness fell. The anger follows a brutal state crackdown on protesters in which thousands of people were killed.
