Taliban Security Forces Fire On Afghan Women's Rights Protesters

Afghan Taliban forces used gunfire to disperse a women’s rights protest in the western city of Herat on June 9 after residents demonstrated against the recent arrest of women accused of violating the Taliban's mandatory dress code. One eyewitness told RFE/RL’s Radio Azadi that at least one person was killed and several people were injured. Taliban authorities did not confirm any casualties or arrests.
